On desktop, you can play the HLS stream elsewhere if you're willing to do a few steps. If you visit the /hls page in Google Chrome, open the Developer Tools and choose to view the site as an iPad, you can see the stream URL that it tried to play in the video player element. Take that URL to your favorite video player, and see if it will work there.
